TEB AIRPORT NOISE OFFICE
Noise-Abatement Programs and Procedure
Teterboro Airport is a general aviation reliever airport located in Bergen County, New Jersey, 12 miles from New York City.
As a reliever airport, Teterboro’s goal is to provide general aviation access to the region, accommodating smaller aircraft that would otherwise cause congestion at the major commercial airports.
Teterboro has a comprehensive noise program that aims to reduce the impact of aircraft noise on surrounding communities. The program includes mandatory noise limits for aircraft departures:
- 80 dB(A) departure limit on Runway 24 from 2200 to 0700 local
- 90 dB(A) departure limit on Runway 24 from 0700 to 2200 local
- 95 dB(A) departure limit on Runways 01, 19 and 06 at all times
- 95 dB(A) departure limit for helicopters at all times
If an aircraft exceeds an applicable decibel limit by more than 1.0 dB(A) of the limit, a noise violation is issued. A noise violation stays on the record for two years. An aircraft will be banned from the airport if it receives three noise violations within a two-year period.
The Teterboro Airport noise program also includes a voluntary restraint of all non-essential aircraft operations between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
If an operator does not abide by the voluntary restraint, they will receive a letter informing them of the program and reminding them that only essential flights should be conducted during the restraint period.

The Teterboro Aircraft Noise Abatement Advisory Committee (TANAAC) is comprised of the locally elected officials or their duly appointed alternates, and members of the aviation community. The primary goal of the committee is to work collaboratively with the airport management and Federal Aviation Administration in an effort to enhance the quality of life of the residents of local communities while ensuring the continued efficient operation of the airport.
